Looking back on 2023

2023 was our first year out playing live shows and it was a great debut year! Between May and December we did seven shows at four different cool venues in and around town, and one music festival. If not for scheduling we could have played a lot more. Pretty good for a new unheard of band playing a selection of unique songs that most cover bands don’t do.

In spite of our “social media guy” being ancient, we also managed to build a respectable following on TikTok of all places! Close to five hundred Facebook followers, over two hundred on Instagram, and now nearly three hundred on TikTok!

Of course even with the sunshine, there can be some cloudy patches. Sadly our guitarist wasn’t able to continue with the band, leaving a big hole to fill. We understood, but still miss him. But for every dark lining there’s a bright cloud and we were very fortunate to find a rock solid replacement, only for his employer to transfer him out of province in early 2024! He’s been wonderful though and continues to play for us and fit his work schedule around us as best he can to support the commitments we had already made for upcoming shows. Our guitarists are like the drummers from Spinal Tap!

The upcoming year is looking bright with four shows already booked, hitting the ground running with a couple in January. Our hunt for a guitarist continues so we’re playing it safe on bookings past the first quarter until we’ve found that perfect someone. We’ve got some good prospects, but we haven’t finalized anything yet. Stay tuned, it should be happening soon!

Lotsa words, and no puns or dad jokes. Pretty weird for us! Anyway, we hope all of you had a good 2023, we hope you’re looking forward to a great 2024, and we will see you out there!

we are Blue Monkey Overdrive

PS: Even though we’re not actively booking we’re always looking for opportunities, so if you would like to have a night of Monkey Madness with us next year, reach out and we can talk about putting on a show for you!

New Years Resolution Regrets?

How many of you had “spend more time with apes” as a new years resolution? Well you’re in luck, that’s one resolution you won’t have to break! But the rest of them? Meh. You’ve been good for 4 days, that’s enough! Come break your resolutions with BMO! We will be Rockin’ Shannon’s Irish Pub January 5th, 2024. Come down for some great food and drink, play some pool, and of course, groove to some excellent Rock’n’Soul!
